ConnectBot SSH on Android cell phones

I use SSH very often, I did a SSH test on EVO cell phone with latest Android 2.2, I downloaded ConnectBot SSH client software to EVO, started the SSH connection to remote host, I got in my car and drove on highway for half a hour, after stopped driving, I had my dinner, I pressed enter key about every 10-15 minutes, the connection lasted about two hours, then I exit the ConnectBot. I can move some work done on computers to cell phone now, I better not tell my company

I have to pay extra $10/mo just for EVO, after I use it for almost a week, I really like it, so easy to text messages, browse websites, it is like using a mini computer in my palm, except the battery last only one day, but all the smart phones in the market are about the same, stock battery last 1-2 days, I ordered a replacement high capacity battery on Amazon.com,

according to the reviews this battery can last 2-3 days.

This EVO phone is so good, no wonder Apple has to sue HTC.

When a modem does a PPPoE connection there is no need for the firewall router to be configure for doing a PPPoE connection.

All you need to do is set the firewall router WAN setting to use DHCP.

A Search Plugin for WordPress

I wrote search function software for some search engine, I have tried some plugins for WordPress search function, there are some details, Relevanssi plugin is compatible with WordPress 3.0, KeyPoints.com search is based on Relevanssi. after you activate this plugin, make sure you click its Index button to process the contents, or it will not work. however it does not fully support utf8 character search.

Solaris network installation without DHCP

one reason I got this network installation working without DHCP is cdrom drive on T2000 is bad,
Sparc system does not do cdrom boot from external usb,
only way to install OS on it is replace cdrom drive or network installation,
network installation is more interesting than replacing cdrom drive,
here is procedures,

prepare Sparc install server

svcadm enable svc:/network/nfs/server
mkdir -p /export/home/dvdsparc
cd /cdrom/cdrom0/Solaris_10/Tools
./setup_install_server /export/home/dvdsparc
share -F nfs -o ro,anon=0 -d “install server directory” /export/home/dvdsparc
cd /export/home/dvdsparc/Solaris_10/Tools

say you want to install to a client 172.16.1.10 with Ethernet address 00:14:4f:3b:c5:33 and host name t2, run ‘boot net -text’ on the client, boot command will show client Ethernet address, run this command on install server SunFire T2000 platform sun4v.

on the client to be installed, run this command and follow install instructions,

Solaris sucks now

I used old Sun OS in the past, now I use Solaris at works for test software developement and network driver testing, I saw my colleague using Ubuntu desktop version on his workstation, he is a Solaris driver developer.

I tried Solaris 10 Ldom, compared with VMware, Ldom is a nightmare, it is much harder to configure than VMware, and the network in Ldom is much slower than VMware.

I upgraded Solaris UFS to ZFS file system. I had to learn all the new commands to work on ZFS. I want to switch OpenSolaris to 32 bit mode, but eeprom command does not update grub boot menu file correctly, the system keeps rebooting.

I have a feeling Solaris is being developed under some sloppy engineers, Solaris sucks now.

my web hosting company upgrades their servers lately, they are using Ubuntu on new servers.

Remove redirect virus

My Windows XP computer was infected with browser redirect virus recently, the symptom is any links on Google search result page are redirected to random sites, I tried anti-virus software Microsoft malicious software removal tool and Symantec anti-virus software, they did not work, Symantec software has nice gui, uses tons of system resources, I went to cnet.com, users rated it one and half star only, that is fair.

here is the procedure works for me to remove the browser redirect virus,

Follow Microsoft procedure article 962007 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962007
Download free software SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes
Install above software and download latest known virus data
Reboot system, during booting hit F8 key to boot to safe mode, or use SuperAntiSpyware tool to boot to safe mode
Run SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes in the order to remove virus
if needed, repeat 4 and 5 till no virus found
