Remove redirect virus
May. 22. 2009 by lawnz – Category: Computers, Internet (No Comments)
My Windows XP computer was infected with browser redirect virus recently, the symptom is any links on Google search result page are redirected to random sites, I tried anti-virus software Microsoft malicious software removal tool and Symantec anti-virus software, they did not work, Symantec software has nice gui, uses tons of system resources, I went to cnet.com, users rated it one and half star only, that is fair.
here is the procedure works for me to remove the browser redirect virus,
- Follow Microsoft procedure article 962007 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/962007
- Download free software SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes
- Install above software and download latest known virus data
- Reboot system, during booting hit F8 key to boot to safe mode, or use SuperAntiSpyware tool to boot to safe mode
- Run SuperAntiSpyware and MalwareBytes in the order to remove virus
- if needed, repeat 4 and 5 till no virus found
